Abstract

Globally, despite great progress towards financial inclusion, the inequalities that still hinder women's access to the formal financial system, caused by the systematic exclusion of women, contribute to cycles of poverty and inequality, which may persist for generations to come. For this reason, the objective of this systematic review is to identify the factors that influence women's financial exclusion.  To this end, a systematic review was conducted through academic sources such as Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar, between 2019 and 2024. The results show that women's financial exclusion is the result of a combination of socio-cultural, economic, educational and personal factors. It is concluded that addressing female financial exclusion, in this case, requires well-designed interventions that address sociocultural stereotypes, economic disparities, and gaps in financial literacy.
