Abstract

The article addresses the importance of university social responsibility (USR) in Peruvian universities, highlighting how these institutions must engage with their social and environmental surroundings beyond their traditional academic role. USR is mentioned as an ethical and effective mandate, supported by University Law No. 30220 and vice-ministerial resolution No. 007-2022-MINEDU, which establishes guidelines for its implementation in aspects such as teaching, research and university extension.

The study, of a descriptive and non-experimental nature, seeks to evaluate the theoretical development of USR through a bibliometric analysis of publications in the SCOPUS database. Using tools such as VosViewer software and artificial intelligence, a mapping of advances in this field in the Peruvian and Latin American context is made.

The results reflect a growing interest in USR, especially in topics such as social justice, curricular integration and digital transformation in higher education. Universities in Colombia, Chile and Peru are leaders in academic production on USR, with the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos standing out in Peru.

However, the study highlights inequalities in the implementation of USR. Universities with greater resources and international networks tend to have higher impact programs, while other institutions, especially those with smaller budgets, face limitations in their ability to develop sustainable initiatives. There is also evidence of a lack of clear metrics to measure the long-term impact of these initiatives, which limits their effectiveness.

In conclusion, the article highlights the need to strengthen mechanisms for evaluating USR and to promote greater equality in its implementation, in order to ensure that Peruvian universities can effectively contribute to the social and environmental development of their communities.
