Abstract

Teaching methods have changed. The case method is an active methodology that seeks, from a real experience, the simulated exploration by the student in order to develop in him the ability to make decisions. Before, teaching was centered on the teacher, today it revolves around the student and the teacher. Therefore, both will learn. For this, it is based on a concept or construct, or theory that is the object of study, which is recreated from a real experience and that allows simulated exploration, in order to develop, in the student, his capacity for decision making. For this, the student must carry out research of a bibliographical nature, about either information on the variables or updates on the object of study, which allow him to learn more about the reality of the unit of analysis.
The objective of this work is to make a conceptual review of the case study for pedagogical purposes in the area of ??administration. It is shown from the selection of the case, the way it is used in the classroom, as is the participation of both the teacher and the student.

Author Biography

Alejandro Díaz-Peláez, Institución Universitaria Pascual Bravo Medellín, Colombia

University professor, PhD in Administration from the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of the Catholic University of Argentina. He completed a Master's degree in Information Systems at the University of Sherbrooke, Canada and a bachelor's degree in Statistics from the University of Medellín in Colombia. He has worked as a teacher at the Universidad de Antioquia, Universidad de los Andes, EAFIT and Universidad ICESI, among others.

His research and teaching interests focus on research in the administrative area, Data Analysis, Corporate Governance and Organizational Behavior. Díaz's publications include articles on Management Models, Business Models, Services Marketing, Case Studies, among others.
He has made contributions to the Study of Active Learning Methodologies, especially in the Case Study. The research projects in which he has participated in recent years, always from the methodological point of view, deal with the following topics: Organizational Behavior, Validation of Measurement Instruments, Corporate Governance, Measurement of University Practices, among others.
